Terms of Service
Last updated: 18 October 2026
1. About CaseAnchor
CaseAnchor is an online research tool that helps users find and understand published court judgments. It is operated by its founder from Canada ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using the service you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.
2. Not legal advice, and AI limits
CaseAnchor is not a law firm and does not give legal advice. It uses artificial intelligence to turn your description into searches, to explain which found case may apply, and to summarise judgments. AI can be wrong, incomplete or out of date, and may miss relevant cases. Always read the full judgment and verify any authority before you rely on it or cite it in coursework, a moot, an exam, or anywhere else. You are responsible for how you use the output, including academic integrity rules at your institution.
3. Accounts
You must be at least 16. You sign in with a one-time link sent to your email address, so keep your inbox secure. You are responsible for activity on your account. Give us accurate information when you sign up.
4. Free trial and subscription
New accounts get a free trial of 3 prompts and 2 summaries, with no card needed. After that, a subscription costs £11.99 per month and includes up to 300 prompts and 100 summaries per calendar month. Allowances reset on the first of each month and do not roll over. We may change prices or allowances with reasonable notice; changes will not apply to a period you have already paid for.
Subscriptions are billed monthly in advance and renew automatically until cancelled. Payments are processed by Polar Software, Inc., our merchant of record, which also handles applicable taxes such as VAT. We never see or store your card details. You can cancel any time from Account → Manage subscription; you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. Our Refund Policy forms part of these terms.
5. Acceptable use
- Don't enter confidential client information or details that identify real people. Describe cases in anonymised terms.
- Don't scrape the service, run automated or bulk queries, share your account, or resell access.
- Don't try to disrupt the service, bypass usage limits, or break the law.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules.
6. Sources of case law
UK judgments come from The National Archives' Find Case Law service and contain public sector information licensed under the Open Justice Licence v1.0. US opinions come from CourtListener, operated by the Free Law Project. We don't own that content and we are not affiliated with these organisations. Each result links to its original source.
7. Intellectual property
The CaseAnchor website, design and software belong to us. What you type remains yours; you give us permission to process it in order to provide the service to you (see our Privacy Policy).
8. Availability and changes
We aim to keep CaseAnchor running but do not promise it will always be available or error-free. We may change or discontinue features. If we end the service, we will refund any unused part of a subscription period you have paid for.
9. Our liability
The service is provided "as is". To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for outcomes that result from relying on AI-generated output, including marks, grades or academic penalties. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, or affects the mandatory consumer rights you have where you live.
10. Ending your account
You can delete your account and all saved chats at any time from Account → Delete account and chats. We may close accounts for serious or repeated breaches of these terms.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Canada and the province in which we are based, without affecting any mandatory consumer protections that apply to you where you live.
12. Changes and contact
We may update these terms and will change the date above when we do. Continuing to use CaseAnchor after a change means you accept it. Questions: help@caseanchor.co.uk.
